How does my neighborhood change what a wallpaper project needs?
Seattle’s housing varies a lot from one neighborhood to the next. In many older neighborhoods, such as Capitol Hill, Ballard, Fremont, and Queen Anne, homes date from the early 1900s and often have original plaster over lath. Newer construction, common in parts of the Eastside, usually has drywall. Condos and apartments add building and HOA rules on top of the wall itself. The wall decides the prep, which is why we assess it before we quote. Our guide to wallpaper for Pacific Northwest homes explains how the local climate fits in.
Do Seattle’s historic districts affect wallpaper projects?
Seattle has eight historic districts, according to the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods. Three of them sit in neighborhoods we serve: the Ballard Avenue Landmark District in Ballard, the Harvard-Belmont Landmark District on the west slope of Capitol Hill, and the Columbia City Landmark District. Rules differ by district, so if your home is inside one, confirm with the Department of Neighborhoods before you start. Our guide on historic districts and wallpaper permit rules goes into more detail.
Which services fit older homes in these areas?
For original plaster walls, start with historic home wallpaper installation. If several layers of old paper are in the way, multiple-layer wallpaper removal comes first. If a seam or bubble has appeared, see wallpaper repair.
